Why are we riding?
South Africa has suffered extreme poverty, violence and a history of racism in recent times. The country is experiencing endemic corruption and in some places inequality is worse than it was 25 years ago during the apartheid. Education is critical for the development of the country, but the system is experiencing real challenges. Many primary school students, especially in disadvantaged areas, cannot read or perform basic addition.
The purpose of this project is to teach basic literacy skills to pre-school to Grade 2 children in disadvantaged areas. This should assist them greatly with their formal education through the school system. As well as promoting literacy, the project will also help children know and understand the Bible at a very early age.
We hope to supply 360,000 booklets free of charge in seven of the 11 languages spoken in South Africa. Will you support us?
